Mesothelioma is a rare type of lung cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos dust or fibers. The disease can take 30-40 years to develop and so is generally found in older people that worked in factories or construction. Asbestos was also a common material used in the manufacture of auto brake shoes and can affect mechanics.

Because many employers and even the US Government did not take proper steps to protect workers from asbestos exposure in the workplace, the courts have granted many multi-million dollar lawsuit claims to victims.
